Virtual Book Tour: Not Just Spirited by Chynna Laird

Chynna Laird has written three books on the subject of Sensory Processing Disorder — a children’s picture book, a memoir, and a forthcoming book on sensory diet. It’s an issue that’s close to her heart. When her daughter Jaimie was finally diagnosed with SPD at age two-and-a-half, Chynna made it her mission to tell her family’s story in hopes it would start a dialogue with other parents and children who are going through the same thing.
But her memoir isn’t only for those faced with the challenges of SPD, it’s also a courageous account of the difficult journey one mom went through. Imagine not knowing why your daughter is acting differently to her environment and to those around her, including you. Then imagine having your pediatrician tell you that she’s “just spirited.” What would you do? Chynna chose to fight until someone listened and gave her daughter the help she so desperately needed. It’s a remarkable journey that parents of children with any developmental disability will learn a lot from. It’s also an inspiring one that teaches us not to give up hope at all costs until we break through.
