In the sea of information known as the Internet, it’s sometimes challenging to sift through the seemingly endless amount of results produced when searching for answers. All too often, people give up on their quest for knowledge without succeeding because the abundance of online resources can seem daunting. But within the virtual community there is a place where search engines are replaced with real-life experience, spam is replaced with amusing anecdotes, and hope is restored to those who just want to talk to another human being who knows where she’s coming from. And for many Coast Guard families and friends, that place is CoastieChicks.net.

In honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, local businesswoman Dixie Daly will donate a portion of the sales of her new Tickled Pink® Chocolate bars to the McKee Breast Center. Whenever Tickled Pink® Chocolate bars are sold during October, 10 percent of the proceeds will go to the McKee Medical Center Foundation for support of McKee Breast Center treatment and programs.
“Why do you have to wait for something to happen to yourself personally before you get involved?” Daly says of why she’s supporting Breast Cancer Awareness Month. “The goal of my business is to help women and if I’m going to do that, this is one of the most crucial components of achieving that goal. I want to be proactive in supporting women in their greatest time of need.”

“Make a difference, one child at a time.” This is the mantra that Sylvia Allen, of Holmdel, N. J., lives by and believes down to her core.
Six years ago, the savvy businesswoman, published author and president of Allen Consulting, her own award-winning PR and Integrated Marketing Communications firm, started up the charitable organization following a life changing journey to Masaka, a small village in the African country of Uganda, where she met hundreds of children left to fend for themselves after losing one or both of their parents to the horrific AIDS pandemic ravaging their community.
Before departing, Sylvia was asked by the head of the Mbiriizi Primary School to be the children’s adopted grandmother, the highest honor in the culture. She graciously accepted her new role, but not without declaring her new mission: to raise awareness and money to support the children by providing them with education, shelter, food and clothing.
Since its inception shortly after, Sylvia and other volunteers have had the chance to make an extraordinary difference in this village. Sylvia’s Children has raised over $250,000 (equivalent to approximately $2 Million in Ugandan currency), has supplied and dedicated the Vicky Tuccillo Mbiriizi library to the Mbiriizi Primary School, a fresh well, four classroom blocks, a dormitory to house the students, and housing for the teachers. The organization has also installed computers with Internet access, had books donated to the library, and has supported the children with artistic and extracurricular endeavors by having musical and sporting equipment donated. Additionally, Sylvia’s Children has brought over a dentist to the school, as well as nurses, one of which has cured such ailments as Syphilis and an umbilical hernia.

Divorced and separated parents are using the OurFamilyWizard website to collaborate and avoid costly return trips to court.
Thousand of parents across the United States and Canadaare using the OurFamilyWizard website to help alleviate the financial burden brought on by painful return trips to court. By using the OurFamilyWizard website, parents are able to coordinate schedules, share information, make adjustments and share expenses without the expense of having to involve an attorney as an intermediary.
This is especially true for high conflict families. A typical change to the parenting plan because of a work related trip can end up costing a family hundreds of dollars. The phone chain can become incredible expensive very quickly. Mom calls her attorney, who then calls Dad’s attorney, who then calls Dad. Dad then has to make a decision based on the request and send it back through the attorneys to Mom. Assuming this goes right the first time, if multiple offers are made the legal fees can end up in the thousands of dollars.
