Becoming a professional writer was not Dani Ben-Ari’s original plan. In fact she studied pre-veterinary medicine, intending to become a veterinary nurse. However, her career took a different turn into writing when she was offered her first “gig” as a professional writer with her own columns writing bar/club reviews, and 500 word + music interviews (hype pieces) for Long Island and Westchester Magazines on groups such as The Police, Odyssey, and Talking Heads, as well as a Grace Slick solo album, etc. when she got out of high school. After that, Dani became the associate editor for Auto Trim & Restyling News (international automotive customizing mag) and was the top writer in the field for about 10 years before it was sold to a conglomerate.
In addition, Dani ghostwrote a book on Fireplace and Woodstove Cooking (published by Grosset & Dunlap), and has done a lot of freelance writing on everything from Thoroughbred horseracing to adult and children’s fiction etc. Other published works include A Guide to Equine Studies, A Guide to Automotive Studies, (contributing author) for Nieyar Land of the Abyss, and two books: Car Ownership For Mommies (2008) and Girls Go Racing: Driving to Esteems with co-author Susan Frissell (2009). She also writes a regular Wellness Column for The Hartford Examiner as well as contributes to Women’s Online Magazine. She also continues to freelance on a number of topics.
Dani first became interested in songwriting in 1995, after winning a few awards for writing poetry and was told by a record producer that he thought I’d have a good knack for writing lyrics. Music, however, has always been a big part of her life, and several of her songs have been released on the Millenium Label as well as NBT and Red Rock Records. She has also won awards for her lyrics from American Songwriter Magazine, Verve, and the Nashville International Songwriting Contest.
